Hello
Everyone,
Welcome
to our school website! Have a browse through the
pictures and information. If you have any questions
or you would like to come and meet us, do get in
touch.
Cossington
is a rural primary school with 3 classes and we
are partly based in a pretty 300 year old cottage,
a section of which was rebuilt as a Victorian school
for the village.
We
take children from this and the surrounding villages,
whilst some families come the 4 miles from Bridgwater
because they find that a small rural school setting
is right for their children.
There
is a very warm atmosphere in our school. Visitors
invariably comment on how happy and friendly the
children are! We have a strong staff team who work
closely in partnership with parents. Ofsted say
that "the ethos of the school is one of mutual
respect and high expectation", and that "the
personal development and well-being of the pupils
is outstanding."
Our
teaching is good. It is based on a careful blend
of fundamental literacy, maths, ICT and scientific
skills woven into a broad stimulating curriculum.
We always use local opportunities and the children's
interests when we can, whilst including a wealth
of outside visits and visitors to give a real purpose
to the children's learning.
We
believe that children learn best when they are applying
the skills that they are taught. Therefore our teaching
is established on the principle of supporting individual
pupils while they are working, to enable them to
move on to the next step. Discussing pupils' own
learning with them and listening to their views
is a key part of this process.
We
provide a wide range of free after school activities,
ranging from the pure fun of dressing up and dancing
for KS1 children to cooking where soup is prepared
for school lunch the following day. Many of these
activities are led by parents of the school.
At
Cossington we know all the children very well. We
aim to nurture each one carefully and give them
the confidence to believe in themselves and their
own abilities as they grow and move forward.
Best
Wishes
