Class 1 - Cossington Park House

Class One visited Cossington Park House

Our topic work for this term is about 'our world'. We started our topic by looking at our village. The children went for a visit to Cossington Park House where they had the opportunity to look at the outside of the house and the beautiful grounds.

The children talked about who they thought would live in the house 300 years ago and then drew a picture of the person. We then spent some time looking at the grounds and talked about some of the features. The children loved the Ha Ha Bridge. The children also loved the big space that is going to be turned into a vegetable patch and some children from the school will have the opportunity to help develop this area.

The children then had the opportunity to use clipboards to sketch some pictures of the things that they could see.

When we returned to school we drew a large picture of the house and wrote some imaginary stories about who we thought lived in the house.

The Ghost

One dark day, there was a dark house. There was an old woman. She was poisoned. Then she was a ghost. Her grandchildren moved in. They played with their toys. They heard a 'woo, woo, woo!' They screamed. They ran downstairs. The children shouted to their mum. She ran to the children. Then she heard 'woo, woo, woo!' She screamed. Then it was dinner time. The woman was poisoned.

St George

Once upon a time a brave man called Saint George lived all by himself. So one day he decided to buy a house and soon he had enough money, and do you know what? He bought a house that was for sale. So one day he went to cut the lawn, but he stumbled and fell in the water under the Ha Ha Bridge and drowned and died and then there was a ghost.

The Poor Family

Once upon a time there was a poor old woman and a poor old man. Neither of them could walk upstairs or downstairs. One day the old man sat outside the gate with a pot that said "I am old please can I have some money?" Suddenly there was a queue of people. £1, £2, £3 or £4 went into the pot. Then the old man wet to the conservatory and counted his money. He had £424. So he went to the builders and asked for an extension. Next he brought lots of things. The woman put some of the things in her room and the man put all the other things every where else.
